Needs More Snakes Exhibition at Hotel Pelirocco

Another month another excellent new exhibition in the Pelirocco bar: this time it’s the turn of local artist Needs More Snakes AKA Dan Bowden whose intricate illustrated gig posters are already flying off the HP walls

Launched on Thursday night with a raucous private view that included live sets from Harker & Kelly Kemp w/ EL Morgan, this retrospective exhibition includes gig posters for a whole host of great bands including The Hives, Mudhoney, The Jim Jones Revue, Swans and many more.

Essex born Bowden is a self-taught illustrator who has lived in Brighton for the last 15 years; starting his artistic career as Needs More Snakes in 2011 Bowden made flyers for DIY punk shows and has formed collaborative relationships with many of the bands he has worked with to create his one-of-a-kind often quite dark designs.

With a love of clichéd rock n roll ‘stuff’ such as skulls & snakes, Bowden often takes inspiration from song titles and lyrics to create his bespoke designs. Other inspirations include the work of Tom Newell (who incidentally hand-painted the Kraken mural on the Pelirocco bar) & Brighton landmarks which have featured in more than oneNeeds More Snakes designs.

Screen-printed gig posters (framed & unframed) are for sale in the hotel bar for approximately six weeks, come by and have a gander, but get here quick as sales have already reached double figures!
