New Art by Jennifer Roberts goes on display at Hotel Pelirocco

Artist Jennifer Roberts launched her dazzling exhibition of new work at Hotel Pelirocco with a bang. There were posh frocks a-plenty and fur coat no knickers shooters all round as the bar filled with guests keen to check out her latest work; meanwhile the bar rocked along to all the songs which had inspired the paintings and drawings.

A word from the artist: ' Within the picture frame lies the opportunity to defy the laws of physics and nature. The misrepresentation of physics and anatomy can be exploited in an attempt to illustrate our disjointed and inexpressible feelings; the imbalance of weight or a jarring of elements within the picture to try to externalise a similar feeling of dissonance.

The narrative of my work reveals itself partly through a voyeur's glimpse of the unsuspecting sunject, and partly posed as through a staged theatre set. An element of the theatrical further inspires the underlying narrative. By juxtaposing the assumed grandeur of the statuesque with a lurking pathos, I aim to incorporate an element of the tragic and the comic.'

The exhibition will be on until mid October and is a combination of paintings and drawings which are for sale - for more info ask at reception or contact a manager on info@hotelpelirocco.co.uk

Jennifer Roberts studied Fine Art Painting at University of Brighton '98-'01 and was awarded the Alan Davie Prize.
