Since Hotel Pelirocco opened it’s doors 17 years ago, it’s been a haven for musicians; from them staying at the Hotel, to the infamous after parties and secret gigs and showcases for up and coming local bands.

Our bar manager Alis spoke to Pelirocco Founder, Mick Robinson, who now runs Ivy Lane Promotions putting on gigs all over the country including a monthly slot in the hotel bar…

“Over the years i have put on 100’s of gigs at the Pelirocco .

It’s the ideal venue for bands starting out holding about 40 or 50 people so a great atmosphere is easily created .

I find that the more unusual the band is the better they suit this unusually decorated setting. To me, the vibe in the bar is a cross between an arty Parisian jazz bar and a New York Warhol style creative art space .

There’s also a really great team of people at the hotel, who help create a fun atmosphere for the gigs.”

“Some of Ivy Lane promotions Forthcoming bands playing at the Pelirocco  include local punky upstarts Dirt Royal who have strong mod and punk influences. They’ve played the Peli several times and always manage to get everyone to go into a bit of a frenzy so I’m really looking forward to having them back to rock the bar in August.

Another great band playing in June is Teetotum – expect a three part harmony rock band with big riffs and a unique sound, definitely not a gig you want to miss out on.

Last week we had what I can only describe as post rave years electro soundscapes from ‘Act of Love.’ An amazing four piece that had elements of classic rock thrown in with some electronic beats and bongo’s!

At the start of the month we also welcomed up and coming female punk agitators Shitsick supported by one man punk band Young Francis. It was one of the best gigs to date – the crowd literally went wild.

I look forward to putting more Ivy Lane gigs on at the Peli – watch this space for a wide variety of lively gigs!”
