As an alternative escape (from the queues and hubbub in town!) this year we provide a groovy haven with a plethora of Soundway Records DJs and a special guest disc spinner from one of their top bands, Pigeon!
Expect all sorts of eclectic Afrobeat and Funk from this renowned UK record label . Soundway champion sought after African, Caribbean, Latin and Asian music from the 50s to 80s with various compilations and re-issues, as well as releasing contemporary artists.
As an added bonus there will be an actual record stall available all evening so you can peruse and purchase some cracking vinyl to take home with you.

The Open Houses happen twice a year and the spring events start next weekend, and continue for four more, the duration of the Brighton Festival.
Choose your trail, the nearest to the Pelirocco being of course the Central, Brunswick Town and Hove ones, or flick through the brochure and visit your favourite artist. There are also many events where you can have jewellery personalised, go on a herbal walk, draw mandalas, learn how to batik, weave, throw a pot or even make nipple tassels!
It’s a interesting and friendly way to wander the city seeing new areas, interiors and the creativity of this city’s inhabitants. Who knows, you may go home inspired or clutching something beautiful for your home!

There are several strands – the official Brighton Festival starts on 6th to 28th May 2023 and this year’s Guest Director is Nabihah Iqbal – critically acclaimed musician, producer, DJ and broadcaster.
Alongside and beyond this runs the Brighton Fringe Festival from 5th May until 4th June, with an absolute myriad of arty or ridiculous shows to attend.
The beautiful wood panelled Spiegeltent and Bosco theatres set up in the grassy areas in town and this year a new venue called the Caravanserai will be erected with entertainment and food stalls to enjoy out in the open until late.
From 10th to 13th May there will be over 500 bands descending on Brighton, some established but many of them new, unsigned and looking to thrill you!
Tickets are still on sale for a day, the whole shebang or you can just wander around sampling the tons of FREE Alternative Escape gigs, including our event, see top!
